Creative Writing for Well-being

Thank you to the delightful and talented students who came along and enjoyed a weekend of comfortable rooms, excellent food, great company and lots of creative writing. We shared our weekend, our ideas and our stories, and what an amazing variety of pieces emerged.

The funny and the poetic, the descriptive and the moving. We heard about a tree climbing escapade from childhood, ‘an oak with a rope’ and a big brother! We went back in time to an ancient castle with ‘petulant sons and pious daughters’ and wondered if one day they would find themselves in a novel. We travelled along deserted tracks, and hillside paths, past wooden barns to a cold blue lake. We sat quietly on a balcony of an old house overlooking a canal in Venice and observed locals and tourists. We considered all the different ‘genres’ of creative writing, we wrote to music, we used essential oils and our elegant ‘morning room’ (The Nugent Harris Room) became a comfortable, fragrant retreat.

It was lovely to work with you, I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did. Keep writing!
